The South African professional rugby union team, founded in 2005, is based at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein. The Cheetahs played Super Rugby between 2006 and 2017, before joining the Pro14 competition prior to the 2017–18 season. In 2018, American Ruben de Haas joined the team as one of their scrum halves and was a player in 2019 when they won the Currie Cup finals against the golden Lions.
